Website Flipping means either developing a new website from scratch or purchasing one already developed with the sole intention of selling it at a later time for a profit. You may improve the site, or just sell it without any alteration whatsoever.
- Developing a new website from scratch
You first need to decide upon a theme for your new website and then buy a domain name, preferably one with a name that's relevant to your content. You then have to design the site. You have three choices for this:
-design it yourself
-pay someone to design it for you
-use a template and customise it
You then have to find a reputable host to host it for you, then upload your site onto the web.
Your site's content
This is step one in site creation. You should choose your subject matter very carefully doing your in depth research before you decide. If you are out to make a profit, you should choose a website subject which is of interest to a lot of people, who are willing to pay good money for any information on that subject. Some gurus say you should choose a field in which you have some knowledge. That's O.K. But should only be a bonus - your profit comes first.
Domain Name
As mentioned, it's good if you can get a domain name related to your new site. The domain name should be easy to remember, but realistically the good ones have all gone, you may have to make a compromise, or pay a premium for a previously registered domain with a good name. As you get better and become more confident in website flipping, paying a premium for a previously registered domain name could be financially viable. Obviously you must buy low, and sell high..
Website design
If you already have some site design or programming knowledge this will be a great start and will minimise the costs of developing a brand new website. This gives you the greatest profit when you resell..
If you don't have this knowledge you will have to hire someone to design the site for you. Unless you have a bottomless wallet, I would stay away from professional web design companies. Go to a rent a coder site, and get a really good price. Just check ou the quality of their work first.
Your coder should be able to install any add-ons you want, like a forum, blog or RSS feeds. You can actually do a lot of this yourself, with little sometimes with just one click of a button. If your host supports Fantastico, you can install a WordPress site in minutes. There are many free themes and skins available, and your site could look really professional for no cost.
Hosting
You must host your website with a good web host. These companies that provide web space on their server which connects to the Internet using high speed data communications connections.
You can get free hosting, but there are severe limitations, and you have to carry lots of ads. This will downgrade your site when it comes to resell time.
Get the kind of web hosting that suites your particular needs, and don't spend too much on extra space you don't really need. If your site only receives a few hundred visitors a month, you won't need a dedicated server , while a video site that chews up mega- Gigabytes of data transfer each month would not be suited to a shared environment but would require it's own dedicated server.
